ipflohi,

does some one know where I can find (more) information about Douglas Castle, Douglas, Strathclyde, UK. (like pictures or so)

Built by John and James Adam for the 1st duke of Douglas. The castle was a direct descendant of Inverary Castle. Only the half of the Adam castle was ever built in its classical neo-gothic style. The castle was demolished in 1951.

Was the castle built on the place of another castle or house?

Thx in advance

ipflo

PeterFrom what I have found it as due to a coal seam opening up under the site that caused its demise.
I did find a picture of a remaining tower on; www.uk.geocities.com/snow-man1uk/picturedouglascastle

there was some info on; www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk

hope you can access these sites
Pete
